The Investigation Division consists of the Targeted Response
Crimes and Detective sections. Primary responsibilities are investigating general criminal cases requiring follow-up investigations; major criminal offenses assigned directly to the division; investigations of license applicants; and background investigations of police personnel.
DeKalb Patrol Officers are the first to respond to all calls for service in the community. Officers are dedicated to proactively patrolling problem areas in an effort to reduce and prevent crime. Traffic safety is a priority among the DeKalb Police Department and officers work to prevent crashes and maintain the safety of roadways for all motorists. Officers proudly engage the community in order to build strong relationships with the citizens of DeKalb.
The Patrol Section consists of 1 Commander, 11 Sergeants, and 37 Patrol Officers. Patrol shifts are 10 hours in duration and officers are assigned to 1 of 3 shifts.
The Community Support Services Division consists of a number of functions that directly relate to specialized service provision to our community. These are divided into two sections, Informational Services Section and Community Engagement section. Together, specialized work groups help provide a comprehensive and helpful range of services the Police Department can provide to the community, in addition to traditional patrol services, traffic mediation, crime investigation, and law enforcement.
